Question Regarding External Harddrive Installation?

by caveman137 / August 8, 2008 12:30 PM PDT

I bought a Western Digital external harddrive. The instructions tell me that I've got to reformat my harddrive. One of the steps says to delete a partition. It notes to make sure I've got any files and whatnot saved. My question is, will deleting a partition delete the contents of my harddrive? If so, is there any way around this?

Thank you all in advance. Happy

You shouldn't need to

You shouldn't need to do anything like what you're describing. All you should need to do is plug the drive in, turn it on, and wait until you see a little message about the hardware being installed and ready to use.

Thanks for your response. Happy

The set-up pamphlet tells me to visit their website for specific Windows instructions. Apparently, the software is intended for Mac, and I've got to re-configure my settings? One of the steps is telling me to delete a partition?
