Question on Firewire cable for Panasonic GS300

Aug 13, 2006 2:28AM PDT

I have purchased the Panasonic GS300 and note in the operating manual that the DV interface cable is a 4 pin to 4 pin. As a newbie I am unfamiliar with a DV interface cable vs firewire cable. Are they one in the same or do they serve different purposes.

I understand that using a firewire cable to capture video from the Mini DV tape to the PC is the preferred method over using the USB capture method.

I note that my Compaq pc has a 6 pin firewire port and the camcorder has a 4 pin - on that basis should I purchase a 4 pin to 6 pin IEEE 1394 cable and if I do can I expect it to function with the GS300?

Thanks for any input and advice.

Frank

You are correct. You should get a 4 to 6 pin firewire cable. Yes, it will work with your camcorder.
