Question on FCE

I need help from the FCE experts out there. I have a G4 MDD with panther and my problem is when using audio scrubbing feature while editing I noticed that I can only hear it when I select view > video > real time which uses the computer speaker as the output but when I select view > video >Firewire in which the audio would come out of the camcorder speaker or through the headphone jack sound will come out when the video is played normally but no sound will come out when I use the audio scrub feature. Is this normal with FCE 1 or do I need to change some settings? Thanks.
