Question about stolen personal information

Thought I'd ask the wisdom of this forum.

My wife just got a notice from a former company that she worked for 10+ years ago, stating that a laptop with some of her personal information, i.e. SS#, was stolen. They have offered her a free credit monitoring tool for 1 year with EquiFax.

But what else should she be doing? We've never had this happen before and are not sure what the best approach should be. I'm assuming there may be some kind of class-action lawsuit? How would I find out?

I've read about this happening a few times in recent past, but never followed up on the details.

Any help or advise is greatly appreciated.
