Question About Specs

Feb 7, 2015 12:11AM PST

Hello! I'm comparing a couple of laptops. Can you give some advice on which specs are better?

#1:

1.6GHz Intel Core i5-4200U dual-core processor
8GB DDR3L SDRAM

#2:

2.4GHz Intel Core i3-3110M dual-core processor
6GB DDR3 SDRAM

Thanks

What you learn is that comparing by those alone is trouble.

You can hit up CPUBOSS to compare just the CPUs. But better yet is to see if this model or one of it's near enough models is on Notebookcheck or CNET.

If there were no other details I might go with number one.

Something to look at if you've not done so already

CPU #1

CPU #2

A few things stand out that might favor the i5 if the price difference isn't an object. It is a newer design so one could think that alone is a benefit. You can look up such things as TDP if you're interested in power and heat dissipation issues but these are the Intel published specs.

depends

...on how you want to use the laptop. If for longest battery life attending a school, or while on the road, then go with which ever uses least watts. If in a hot climate, again, the lowest power one. If processing images and large files, then go with whichever uses more watts.
