That 2Wire modem/router is for DSL only. You need a standard modem to go with the cable modem.
Hi.
I hope someone can help and I apologize in advance for my lack of technology terms but I really am desperate.
I have a 2 laptops, a desktop and a Nortel phone that I need to setup for my home office. Previously, I had a 2Wire 2700HB-B router that connected the desktop, 1 laptop via ethernet cable, 1 nortel phone connected to the network and 1 laptop that accesses the router via wireless.
Here is the issue. I moved and now I have Time Warner Cable and I am able to hook up 1 connection via the Motorola SBV5121 Cable modem with an ethernet line, but I do not know how to get the cable modem to talk to the router.
Here is what I have tried so far starting from the wall connection:
1. Wall connection is normal phone cord connected to the TELE 1 port on the cable modem.
2. Cable line is connected to cable modem and power is on.
3. Ethernet cable connected to my docking station for 1 laptop.
This connection is good.
Then:
1. I try to connect the ethernet cable from the cable modem to the dsl modem in one of the IAN ports. Not working.
2. I try to connect a normal phone line from TELE 2 port on the cable modem to the TELE port on the dsl modem and hook up each connection to the IAN ports. Nothing happens.
What else can I do? I have rebooted all devices also. Where am I missing the connection? Any response would be good because I have to start working at home tomorrow for my company.....thank you in advance for your help!
