Question about premium warranties...

Sep 28, 2005 12:40PM PDT

I have found some great laptops that would meet my needs especially either the ABS G4 or the Acer Ferrari. My only quam about choosing any of these laptops are the warranty offers. I know that ABS doesn't offer a warranty program that can compete with something that (shudder) Best Buy can offer (i.e.: will cover EVERYTHING, including giving you new batteries for your laptop when yours starts to die out). And I also don't think Acer can compete with this either.

Do any of you guys know of other manufacturers that make laptops with similar features that can offer a great "no frills" warranty? I don't really care how much the warranty costs, the peace of mind is worth the 300 bucks for 2 to 3 years of full coverage.

Acer sells the warranties. Ranges from $100-$400.

For example, you can go to newegg.com and buy the acer ferrari 4000, a great notebook and also order a separate 3 year warranty for $200ish i forget. If you can't find that warranty option, ITS NOT THE NEWEGG WARRANTY, BUT ACER, one. It should be on the side, and should say ACER, but if oyu cant' find, i'll give you the link. ALso believe, yoiu can purchase from acer, as long as you register with ACer before 90 days after purchase

A piece of my mind.

Please keep researching this topic. You'll find owners of the no-names such as Alienware that have a warranty but the company couldn't fix the machine because they couldn't obtain the parts. The shocker (not to me) is they don't stock spares to handle warranty repairs. If they claim otherwise, then why can't they perform the warranty repair.

Bigger is better in this situation. HP, Dell and "the names" have the bucks to keep spares and more to perform on the warranty.

If you buy a no-name, it's a waste of money on that warranty.
