Question about foreign laptop warranties?

Jul 7, 2009 8:15AM PDT

I'm on the lookout for a laptop this summer and have a question about buying a laptop in another country, and if the warranty would still apply.

First off, I'm Canadian, so if I were to buy a laptop in the US (say at a BestBuy), would the warranty still be valid back in Canada?

Just so you know.

You have to ship it back to the country of where the warranty is. The headaches and costs usually make for zero savings or worse when this happens.

I lived in Vancouver, BC for many years so I know this one. Don't count on it.

the reseller has options of international warranty. As the previous poster mention, call and check with them.

BEWARE.

These resellers are usually dead wrong about this area. Do not trust this avenue as they will tell you what you want to hear to get the sale.
