I have deleted files from Dropbox over the years so I can't guess why you wrote there was no removal. Sometimes you get folk that didn't use one or the other or it's just spam.

Have tried "endless" cloud backups and found them ALL somewhere problematic or lacking some important features.
The worst is Drobox where it is hardly any possibility to delete files from the cloud.
I came across Spider oak which seems to work friendly, better than any other one i tried.
[one can buy one terabyte] but again I see no possibility to remove files from the cloud if not needed anymore [to free space of course]
Do any of the readers have experience with Spideroak ,especially with this issue ?
thanks for an answer.

thanks for you willingness to help.
The dropbox story is not just my fancystory, even the help desk [if i may call it this way] claims that there is no [simple[ way and they don't care less really........
If you need dropbox for 5 Gb maybe fine ,but this was not our issue.
I will look in the forum of spideroak
I still wonder about your comment on dropbox. Example I just snapped is at:

I'm guessing you wanted some user manual on how to do this?
