Question about cable modem and Xbox 360

Sep 20, 2007 8:07AM PDT

We just got broadband internet and since Halo 3 is almost here, I'm finally thinking about getting Live. I was wondering, since it costs alot less for the cable modems, if is cheaper and easier than the Xbox 360 Wireless Reciever. And if I did that, would I have to buy a cable splitter, so I could hook up the cable modem. Thanks alot

Depends

If you wanted to go the wired route, you could probably get away with just a simple cheap hub. You can't just split network cables like you can phone and cable TV cables.

If you wanted to go the wireless route, you'd need to get a wireless router. Preferably one that advertises compatibility with Xbox Live.

It's up to you which way you want to go.

it depends

it depends on how much u wanna spend. buying another router and getting a wired connection might cost your around $50-60, while the network wireless adapter for the 360 is $120. Now i dont know but there might be a chance that a normal network adapter for your computer might fit in the usb port and work. Maybe if you already have one you can try it out because these adapters are alot cheaper i think their only like $50.

I tried that eariler. Didn't work. For the cable modem I would just buy a cable splitter thing, split my cable, then attach one end to the modem, and the other back into the tv. Might just go with the wireless thing for the 360 also. Only $100 here, but still alot. Thanks alot

i have

mine set up through a wired router.
I have three computers and the X box live all plugged into the router. The whole family plays one gameor another either online or on the 360 at one time.
Usually one on XBox live, two online on computers doing other games.
Never been a issue.
It costs me 30.00 cable bill a month. I rent my modem from them for 3.00 which is part of that 30.00. i have the lowest speed they offer at Comcast. I paid 50.00 for my wired Router. It is a Belkin.
