Question about Boot Camp and Vista

Apr 1, 2007 12:13PM PDT

Hello all, in my entire 18 years of existence I have been a Windows User, but I am soon off to College and I want to buy a new MAC PRO for my future in Film, and so of course I want to go with the industry standard Final Cut Pro. Yet, I am also an avid gamer, and I would pretty much die if I couldn't play CRYSIS which is Directx10 and obviously windows only. (if you haven't checked it out you should NOW, it's truly amazing). So, in browsing the forums I have seen that Bootcamp essentially acts as a partitioner and that's how it all works, but I would rather keep Vista set up on a different hard drive all together, is this possible? Thanks for any information...

Currenly, Boot Camp only allows the use of the internal drive.

OS X, on the other hand, will boot from any external device, preferably Firewire, so you might be able to increase the Windows partition on the internal drive and still meet all the Boot Camp requirements.

For Windows. Here's why. Microsoft has yet to enable any version of Windows supplied by them to boot and run from USB or Firewire connections.

Do not hold your breath hoping this will show up.

The easiest thing to do would be to simply get a second hard drive to put in the new MAC PRO when you get it.
I have a Mac Pro and just installed a new drive and it was a piece of cake. Simply initiallize the drive from within OSX and have it set the drive up as a DOS partition.
By putting in a whole new drive size isnt an issue.

Make sure the drive is the right format (SATA II) and let it run.

This wouldnt be possible with a Mini or an iMac but if you choose to go Pro you will be happy.

BTW - spring for extra RAM. You WILL want it.
