Quarantined Trojans

Jun 19, 2004 6:58AM PDT

I have Win. 98SE. I have been able to down load pics from my camera. Didn't know why as I had no trouble to begin with, so I decided to try reinstall it. When I did so, I got this error: regsvr32.exe/u/s/ error followed by and bunch of symbols with thick black lines between. My aware, AVG and spybot did not pick this up. I went to Bitdefender and did an online scan. It found a couple of Trojans and some temp files. I downloaded their free program and it quarantined them. What do I do now? If I delete the quarantined items, does this mean I am free of them? Thanks.

Boxer,

Please give us the EXACT error message you're receiving during the installationl

First, the error message you are getting may not be related to the "trojans" that were detected. We'll need to know the full "regsvr32.exe/u/s/" error message that you have received. That error can be related to the inability of a file to get registered during the installation process or an improper uninstall. For example, if your computer is a dual boot set up, then the link below shows a similar problem with Internet Explorer uninstalls.:

Error Message Removing Internet Explorer on Dual-Boot Computer

You may, or may not, need to delete the "trojans", but it would certainly help if you told us the names of the files and the names of the trojans detected. Some types of trojans are more like "spyware" and they may have been installed by a number of different software types, including the camera software. That adware may not be included in the other scans that you were using.

To answer your question directly, if they are adware or trojans, deleting the files from quarantine should remove them permanently, unless they get reinstalled again.

Hope this helps and let us know more, please.

Ok, I don't know exactly how to covey the exact error message, I cannot copy it and there aren't any symbols like it anywhere on my keyboard. I shall use the ~ to represent the thick black lines. I am trying to uninstall my camera software and I get a warning window that says: regsvr32.exe/u/s error ~i~n~K in a circle~E with a slash above it~,~S~looks like a u with a stick coming down from the front of it as in a p~U with 2 dots above it~that funky u again~1/2~B. I hope you understand that.

When I install my camera software again I get regsvr32>exe/s C:\programfiles\pixela\imagemixer\mpg2sppx.ax error. I got this error when I first tried to reinstall the camera software: error installing ikernel.exe (0x1200) imagemixer vcd for finepix but have not seen it again.

I had no problem d/l my pics from my camera then all of a sudden I could not. I went ahead and deleted the files from the quarantine and then installed avast again and ran that. This time it has in it's chest:
C: command.com
C:\windows\system kernel32.dll
C:\windows\system wsock32.dll

I sure hope this helps you, I am sorry I didn't give enough information the first time, I am new at this.

Boxer,

Are you saying that Avast detected the files below as "infected" and quarantined them??.
C: command.com
C:\windows\system kernel32.dll
C:\windows\system wsock32.dll

If so, what's the name of the virus/trojan that was detected? Those files are main Windows system files and if infected, and if they can't be "cleaned" by an antivirus program, then you'll need to replace them or reinstall Windows.

Just for confirmation, please click on either, or both of the links below and run the free online virus scans that they provide:

Housecall Online Scanner

Panda Online Scanner

In addition, you should download the Stinger stand-alone removal tool to your desktop from the link below, then restart the computer in "Safe Mode", then run the tool repeatedly till it finds no more viruses.

McAfee Stinger Tool

If your computer is infected, that could be the reason your camera software won't work correctly. You'll need to clean things up first.
________________

Normally, the "error installing ikernel.exe" is an "Install Shield" problem and can sometimes be rectified by closing down all background tasks (Ctrl-Alt-Delete, then "End Task" on all listed items, except for Explorer and Systray.), then try uninstalling the software and reinstalling it. (CLICK HERE To See Some Of Those Suggestions.) Try cleaning out the "C\Windows\Temp" folder and the "C\Windows\Temporary Internet Files" folder then reinstalling. You may also need to reinstall the Dcom98 files from the link below:

http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/download.asp

Or frequently your camera manufacturer's website will have suggested methods of fixing the error.

Hope this helps.
