Question

Q70R soundbar dropping HDMI passthrough video

We just got a new Q70R soundbar to replace my dying Denon 5.1 system. Testing out the Atmos option by passing the PS4 through, on to our ancient Samsung 46", Blurays sounded AMAZING. I'm not sure if it was actually Atmos compatible audio or DTS:X, since we aren't 4K, but the video was pristine and there were no problems. However when I was playing some games later the video kept dropping out. I noticed the soundbar was switching over the the optical input form the TV (I also have an Apple TV plugged into the TV, using the optical out to the soundbar). I tried swapping around the HDMI cables but it kept happening. I'm now inclined to think it's the soundbar passthrough, although I don't think it's the TV, since it's the soundbar dropping the input and reverting to the optical from the TV. The TV stays with the HDMI input coming from the soundbar. Any ideas before I ditch HDMI and surround and just wait until we replace the TV with something more modern, equipped with HDMI arc?
