does the newer version write over the older version?

Would I be better off deleting the old version program by program before installing the new stuff?

Thanks for any info...

Mr Macfixit had mentioned on a previous question of mine...

COPY your itunes library over to the new drive. Launch iTunes while holding down the option key. This should cause iTunes to ask if you want to create a new library or use an existing one. Choose existing, and browse to your external and the library you copied.
This, apparently, only works in iTunes 7 and above.
A similar shortcut works for iPhoto as well.

After moving the libraries to an external hard drive, what is the best method for clearing the old iTunes and iPhoto library of the original hard drive? Should one delete the whole folder? Should one open upo the folder and just delete the contents?

Thanks for any input.

Updating

Leave the old iLife in place and install the new one. The old one will, should, get replaced and use the old databases. The first thing it does is update the databases to suit the new version.

To remove the old iTunes database, now that the stuff is on an external drive, just pick it up and trash it. Not the music folder, just the iTunes database folder

If one removes ones iTunes folder, one should not have a problem.

Update about updating...

When I originally got my iBook 2 years ago, it came with iLife 04 installed and 2 dvd's with iLife 05 on it. When I upgraded then... it was a shock to see several gigabytes disappear from my small HD (28.5 gigs).

This time around it put very little extra on my HD when Upgrading to 06. I guess that iMovie et al... is similar enough to the 05 version that it didn't have to take away precious HD space.

Have a good day Wink
