I found the answer in the Mozilla Firefox Help webhttp://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile. At first I treid the copy - and -edit methos, but they did not work. Eventually I created a new user profile on the drive where I wanted it, deleted the default profile, copied my desired profile contents into the newly-created profile that the Profile manager made, and after a bit of cleaning up of the Windows Profile directory and logging out and in again, Firefox worked with my new profile location.
Cheers!
Firefox stores all its user data in my user profile in the Windows directory on the hard drive of my PC. Now this is a problem, and may be a problem for others on a network as well.
At this office, the User Profile for my PC gets stored on a network. But there is a limit to the size of profile that can be stored, so all the User Data for Firefox in my User Profile makes it too large to store. the system won't store my current profile. So, ifI am to continue using Firefox, I have to move the Firefox user data out of my profile, and into another directory, which will preferably be on a network drive.
The question is, how do I move the user data?
I tried moving the files and editing the paths in the extensions.ini and compreg.dat, but it did not work. the next time I started up, Firefox just re-wrote the files with the old paths in them.
Cheers,
JRH.
