Pushing Products on Forums

Apr 19, 2005 2:21AM PDT

Maybe I am a little old school and this is definatly a tangent, but isnt it a bit distatsteful for people to push thier products on a forum.

I was looking through the forum and saw a post entitled Wholesale phones, and it seems it was just a string of "buy phones from my site" posts, the same for the post about buying an unlocked phone. Are these even within the terms of the forum policy?

I agree with you.

I was told by a CNET rep. that if people ask for info. then it is OK for people to post websites. But I see some are abusing this rule by posting multiple answers and promoting their websites. Report them to CNET by clicking "report" button above the posts.
It seems like these people appear from nowhere, post several promos and then dissapear.

The thin line.

A top post flogging a product may vanish.

If someone asks for the "mystic blue elephant ionizer USB powered 5 megapixel tree scrubber", then it is acceptable for the responder to note a product.

The line gets crossed if they response-spam the boards as well.

I was actually talking about the pleas to "Buy a phone from me"

That's a top post.

If you make a post inquiring where to buy something, you asked for it.
