Given it's that new, why not send it back, try another make or model?

I have a Canon EOS Rebel SL1, pictures seem to have a purple tint/hue to them. Is it the sensor going bad or is there a way to correct this in the white balance settings?

If the pictures were taken under artificial light you probably need to use white balance (in the camera) for the type of light (incandescent/tungsten or fluorescent).
You can make color corrections to an existing picture by using a program like Photo Shop Elements.
..
Here are a couple samples of the purple hue/tints-can also see some green hues/tints

a common event with digital cameras.
High contrast is usually involved and often associated with a lens.
