Purchasing Help - please help asap

Jul 12, 2005 4:36AM PDT

Hi, I am new to this board - but I need help on making a purchase on a new MP3 Player.
I am willing to spend upto $350.
I want this player to last - and I don't want the typical Ipod or Mini -> unless that is the best option.
I want it to be at least 1gig and have a decent battery life (12+ hours)
I would like it to have a FM Tuner.
(Color Screen, Video, etc is cool but not neccessary)
I have heard many things such as the new Sony Network Player (NW-E407) - has great playback sound, amazing battery life - but can't be seen in the outdoors.
I have heard some things about the Cowon iAudio x5 (so far it seems ok)
I have also seen online the H20 from Iriver and the Olympus m:robe player.
The main thing is I want great sound, for a good price, great features and that it will last.
Thank you very much.

) does really nice records
) battery life is about 12 hours (with medium quality accus) and full sound processing
) radio isn't that good, but as far as i know u won't be able to find any good among mp3-players

Olympus m:robe MR-100 sound quality is a problem
Aug 25, 2005 7:45AM PDT

Have you listened to the Olympus m:robe MR-100?

I became suspicious of its audio quality when I
failed to locate any mention of the unit's signal
to noise ratio in the specifications.

As you can see below from the response to a
query to their technical support department,
it is rated at measly 75 dB!

Subject: m:robe 100 sound quality

After a careful search of your site, I was unable to
locate the signal to noise ratio of the m:robe 100.

I expected to find it on this page:

http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_product_robe.asp?product=1145&fl=4

What is the signal / noise ratio of the M:Robe 100 (MR-100)?

Sound is adequate
Aug 25, 2005 11:51PM PDT

Hi!
I have updated the firmware and am really pleased with the sound quality. It's fine for me but I have noticed that a lot of people like to blare their music so that everyone can hear it so if that is what your looking for than you might want to try another player
