That is what he would charge me to install the free version from scratch on my computer and said to wait until Jan or Feb when I sent him the website you gave me. I don't know how to change drivers etc. Not knowledgeable on that.

We used that article last month on an office machine that re-appeared. We thought it lost and didn't get it done with the dozens of other office machines.

The first time you let it upgrade and ACTIVATE. Now it is possible to install from scratch but why work hard? Of all the dozens of machines at the office we never bothered to install from scratch. Why? We don't see the benefit of investing a day per machine (high end, tough case PC.)

I am updating to windows 10 now and keeping fingers crossed. The guy that was going to install windows 10 said he didn't know if my tower would work but I really think he is wrong so I will see what happens. You have always given me great advice for a long long time. Thanks again

If you do try w10 and it does not work as you would like do you have the ability to go back to w7?

I was thinking win 7 end of life was 1/2019 that is why I wanted win 10. Good thing I didn't know or I would not have downloaded free win 10. Glad I did though. So far I like it. Miss my free games but that was just to clear my head sometimes. So far I like 10 but I have only been using it since yesterday but everything is OK. I downloaded classic shell but I should have given the 10 a chance as it wasn't bad. I WISH I HAD MORE CONTROL OF UPDATES IN 10. You guys are techs. The tech that was going to charge me 200 for installing win 10 said he wasn't sure my tower would be OK. I have a Dell 3rd Gen core i5 8GB dual channel DDR3 1TB hard drive Intel HD Integrated Graphics. My hard drive is 17% used so I hope he was wrong. Anyway thanks for all the info I have received.

I am currently using Windows 7 and really wanting to update. It is still free. The only thing is I don't want to pay to it. So I am gonna do some study to do it myself.

Thank you. So far no problems and it is working fine. Computer updated itself today and no problems. But after updating to windows 10 it only gives you 10 days to revert back. But things are changing so I figured I might as well do it now or will have to do it later. I did install classic shell which allows me to find things quicker but am pleasantly surprised that windows 10 is good. Glad I did it.
