Purchase a PS3?

Jul 16, 2007 11:07PM PDT

Okay so I bought a 1080p HD Samsung (LNT-4066F). I was curious if I should buy the PS3 or Sony's new blu-ray player for $499. I honestly don't watch that many movies so that's why I'm even contemplating a PS3, because I do play videogames. Anyway. I have an Xbox 360 so I'm set on HD gaming, but I do want to watch some blu-ray movies. All opinions are welcomed. Make sure you fanboys don't respond because I don't want to hear the extra nonsense. Pretty much if you own a PS3, share your experiences, you like it, why, you don't like it, why? Thanks all!

I wouldn't recommend getting a PS3 as a blu-ray player. The PS3's blu-ray drive is unique, in that it can also play PS3 games. This would make it much more expensive to replace should it ever fail. On the other hand, blu-ray movie players will likely continue dropping in price until they eventually hit about the $100 point. They will be much cheaper and easier to replace in the event of some kind of failure.

If you get a PS3, get it to play games, not movies.

My vote: PS3

I purchased a PS3 last week and quite frankly I like the performance. I had similar confusion in the begining about what system whould I opt for , Playstation 3 or XboX 360. Read reviews on the internet although they werent too much in favor of PS3 but then again the only are where XboX was winning PS3 was game library. Now, since Blu-Ray has won the battle, there would be many more games and according to me PS3 is future unless of course XboX do something groundbreaking.
As opposed to the allgation on PS3 that it does not play PS2 games in good quality, I must say they are all baseless. in fact on the contrary, the game looks beautiful. I have been playing God of War, NFS and couple others and the experience is amazing.
You will be better off with a PS#.
Cheers!

Absolutly the PS3. Your obviously a gamer first and would like the ability to watch BR movies. That is exactly why I bought my PS3. For the price (especially now with the price drop on the PS3) it make no sence to buy a stand alone BR player.

One thing I would recomend. Buy the PS3 Bluray remote control. Well worth the $20. Watching a movie and having to use the game controler is a pain.
