Return Samsung Customer??,
The unit had quite a warranty for being a 2006 release. I'm sorry to hear that you have problems only a short time after the warranty expired, and I do sincerely hope we can earn your business.
Usually, in my experience, the "colored snow" symptom is an issue with an electronics board and not the panel. However, without looking at the unit, I'm really unable to give a better diagnosis than the technician that you spoke with.
So not to add to the confusion, but it can be repaired. Is it worth the cost? That's something I can't determine.
I will say that the price of plasmas has come down significantly. If you're looking at a possible $300-500. repair, you might consider that new panels in that size are considerably less expensive compared to prices from several years ago. It may be worth comparing.
I have a Samsung HP-S4253 Plasma TV. It went out of warranty in January this year. Over the past few months this problem has gotten worse.
When the TV is turned on and the screen finally fires up the screen is filled with a pulsing white/rainbow snow. This pulsing started about two months ago and was primarily only a problem on initial start up, but as soon as the TV recognized a signal from the cable box, the screen calmed down and went into normal picture. Now, the screen still pulses and the cable image is very color distorted with an almost reversed color pulse.
I called an in home service company and in my discussions with the service tech over the phone he sounded very confident that it was the plasma display and it would be cheaper to just buy a new TV. Has anyone had this issue and found it to be a simple fix?
I am reluctant to spend $100+ just to have someone come to my home and tell me my TV is junk.
