Sep 5, 2015 3:32PM PDT

my old thermaltake tr2 600 watt psu gave out so i replaced it with the 700 watt version, latley my pc has been overheating more now than when my old psu was functioning. is there a way to prevent the overheat?, there also seems to be longer wires with the new one so is that blocking air flow a possabilaty?

What wrong though ?

That GPU is a 175 watt card so it's gonna feel hot .
Is the computer shutting down ? What's happening that makes you say it's overheating ?
Any fuzz balls in the case ?

How old is this computer

It may be time for some new thermal paste on the CPU and GPU . Clean the fan too and blow out all of the dust

just over a year

i do clean it regularly but i did notice when i had to move a fan that there was dried paste between a metal plat on the board and the plate on the fan, is this said paste?

You haven't told much about this computer but, if you're going to do this work , I would suggest that you install an after market cooling fan for the CPU.
I have built a couple of desktops and found that even a lower priced aftermarket cooling fan does a better job than stock.

Answer
I usually try the easy fix.

Leave the side cover off or cut a huge hole in the side cover and glue some grill on that.

Maybe it's time to try canned air and new heatsink compound, on this GPU.
