Question

Psu issue

Jun 27, 2018 6:12PM PDT

Hello everyone, first thank you for just taking the time to read this. I have a hp elitedesk with an i7 and purchased a 1060 6gb gpu, I had to upgrade my psu turns out my original psu has a 6 pin connector instead of the 24 pin connector. So my new psu doesn't have that connector, it goes on the motherboard on a slot called pwrcmd p2. I did see some adapters online but theydont have the same colored wires. What can I do? thank you!!

I was kinda afraid of me having to do that. Would a new mb be more practical and safer? If yes how can I find out what mb is compatible wopith the rest of my hardware? Thank you again!!

Can't answer.

Without the full model number, but a link to your exact model I can't answer.

If you want to game, and reuse some of what you have read https://www.reddit.com/r/PCMasterRace/wiki/builds

That aside, the 1050 Ti often can be used without a PSU change up.

Whatever that number is it's not the model number.

I found that number at the back with the hpnlogo on it. Where else could it be?

You bought it.

Model number would also be on the box, invoice, etc.

But really. My advice is to go with the 1050 GPU since many report it's OK on 300ish Watt PSU machines.

If you change the mobo your going to open a 'can of worms'.

It must fit in the case.
It must support your cpu.
It must support your ram.
Then you will need to buy a new OS.

What else is not standard with that HP case and mobo?

Wellthepc has never been modified. The only non standard part really seemed to the mobo, the psu that comes with it doesn't even have an extra connector to plug any other device such as gpus, yet the mobo has 2 slots for gpus. So weird and frustrating at the same time

If you do that, you open the can

Of worms.

Your OS won't boot, you may need a new license (100 bucks) and the costs mount.)

For good gaming on this one, a big nod to the 1050.

So if I do get the 1050 I will need a splitter conector has the psu I have doesn't have any extra ?

Many 1050's

Don't need a PSU connection. And if you need a splitter, well, go get one. Not to disparage you but I think you can work out the splitter once you get the card.

As to the cost of the new motherboard, it's likely to need a new case, an OS license, new ram, new PSU, and what else? If you go that route, you are looking at essentially a new PC.
