Question

PS4 to TV trouble

by Cyropike / June 6, 2017 2:27 PM PDT

About a week ago, my PS4 suddenly stopped showing any video/audio when I would turn it on. It's connected to an Insignia TV. The TV shows that something is connected, but displays 'no signal,' or sometimes a blank screen. I've tried different HDMI cables, the TV's other HDMI port, and another TV (which worked but using that TV permanently isn't an option.) Any help would be greatly appreciated

Clarification Request
This was a common complaint

So try the usual tests.

1. Reset all the HDMI ports. Like this: Unplug all HDMI cables (just one end will do) and remove mains power to the set for a few minutes. Power on, and test.
2. Be sure other devices work on those HDMI ports.

After that, call Sony to see what they can suggest next.

Again, I have a clue why this happens, but no user serviceable parts and too often it's a Samsung TV.

HDMI reset

So should I unplug both the TV and PS4 or just one? If so, which one? Also this happened before months ago but started working again just as suddenly as it started.

Sorry if I was unclear.

To do this reset I only need to unplug one end of each HDMI cable. If it's easier to unplug both ends, that will do as well.

As to the work, not work, work again, The PS4 and many other things update over the web and if they break it, well we may never know unless others yelp too.

Also, reset the PS4. Here's how:

Unplugged
by Cyropike / June 6, 2017 2:50 PM PDT

I just unplugged both HDMI cables from the TV and both devices (PS4 and other game console). Should I unplug the power from the TV and consoles as well? I'm just trying to be certain. Also, the link leads to a search about the PS4's safe mode. I've tried booting into safe mode but there was still no display. Or are you suggesting I do a factory reset of the PS4?

Just resetting the TV clears this up unless it's a Samsung then we try other HDMI cables and finally call it dead. Sony knows of the issue but for user serviceable areas, this is all we can do.

Okay I'll try this. I hope it works, really want to use the PS4 again. And I'm not sure what causes this problem, but I do know my TV works. I used both HDMI cables and ports on a different console and had no trouble. Thank you for your suggestions

Cause?

Choice of HDMI chips by Sony from what we can tell. I wish this was not a common issue. It does seem to afflict Samsung sets more than others (you can google this and find that out.)

Whatever it is, its seriously frustrating. I was able to get display once (without sound) but couldn't get it again.

As I don't see a full make, model of the TV I can't see if I can find if there is firmware or other settings to try.
