PS3 Letterbox Question

Jul 22, 2007 3:29PM PDT

I recently bought a PS3, and (as soon as I get a Component -> VGA transcoder) would like to be able to play it on my computer monitor like I do with my 360. However, my monitor is a 19" SCEPTRE Naga-X9G, and it's in standard 4:3 aspect ratio. I know the PS3 only supports HD resolutions of 1080i/p and 720p in 16:9 aspect ratio, but what I'm wondering is, is there any way to put GAMES (I know DVDs will do this)in letterbox mode to keep HD quality. While some 360 games have full HD support for 4:3 monitors, others, such as Forza 2, force the game into letterbox mode to keep the required aspect ratio (see link provided). I would much rather it do this than try to stretch the image out to try to fit a fullscreen monitor, which is what I'm afraid the PS3 might do.

So in a nutshell, will the PS3 allow me to do this: (http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/8987/letterboxph1.jpg) or will it try to stretch the image out to fit the screen?
