Removing the laptop hard drive. . .
by Coryphaeus / October 10, 2007 7:57 AM PDT

and setting it aside will cause no problems, it's done all the time. Just be careful and wear an anti-static device or keep yourself grounded.

Now, what format is the PS3 drive, does it have an operating system that will boot the laptop? What size is the PS3 hard drive, as in physical size, as in will it fit into the laptop?

May I suggest you purchase an external USB-2 drive case, mount the PS3 drive in the case, and connect the case to the laptop.

format ps3 hdd on laptop????
by sibsangel / February 16, 2009 12:15 AM PST

hi i saw your post and was a little confused. why would you want to try to format your ps3 hard drive on your laptop?
i would't think you could do that as there is not only a huge risk of the drives being damaged but there is also the compatibility issue. the majority of laptop components are made spacific to the brand or manufacturer line it belongs to, and i should imagine ps3 drives are too.
if you go the settings tab on the ps3, select "systems settings","restore default settings" and see if that sorts out the problem. if not go to "systems settings" and "format utility" then select "format hard disk".
good luck with it.
