PS3 fan noise?

Jul 16, 2007 2:57AM PDT

I have a PS3 and am very happy with it except for one thing, the fan noise. Whenever I watch a standard or bluray DVD, the fan kicks into high gear within 10 minutes and stays on the whole movie. I have it on a glass TV stand and it is not enclosed, so ventilation is not a problem. Does anyone have similar problems?

noise noise noise...

Yes, I have the same problem too. My component rack does have a glass door, but I HAVE to keep it open. The PS3 really generates the heat. And when that fan kicks in it sounds like a jet taking off. Crazy.

I've read online some PS3's are quieter than others. I'm not sure what to do either. Sad

360 too

I have the 360 with HD-DVD add on and the fans in it are so loud that I have to turn the movie volume way up to drown out the noise. It is a pain when you have a quiet scene and then an action scene because I have to continually adjust the volume.

Basically gaming consoles aren't made for movie watching. My $120 upconverting DVD player is as quiet as a mouse.
