General discussion

PS3

Oct 21, 2009 1:48AM PDT

I have a question that I hope some people can answer. I want to buy a PS3 however do not own an HDTV, now is it still worth getting regardless of whether or not I have that HDTV? I know the games will look better but I cannot afford an HDTV right now, maybe by Christmas, but I want the PS3 now?

Thoughts?

Sure

Sure. I think the problem with people these days, is the focus is only on how a game looks. No one seems to give any consideration to how the game PLAYS.

Games may not look as good on a standard TV vs a HDTV, but it'll still be a step up. In my experience with the Xbox 360, the composite input looked about the same as the PS2 with component cables. So, if the same holds for the PS3, you can expect a modest image quality increase now, and a more profound one once you get an HDTV and can use component/VGA/HDMI video.

Thanks for the insight Jimmy. I will definately look into getting it now. Since you have an XBOX 360 I also appreciate no bashing of the PS3....HAHA.

Eh

Eh, I don't see it as an either/or scenario. Sooner or later I'll pick up a PS3 myself. Just waiting for the likes of God of War 3 and Final Fantasy XIII, which I can only hope is worth the wait.

I feel sorry for the people who equate their self-worth to their possessions. Cars, video game consoles, cell phones, whatever. It's a little sad, and very pathetic.

hdtv or not 2 hdtv

we got a ps3 without getting fancy hdtv; kept what we had & everything works fine; my son plays brutal legend & says there's no real difference between our older tv & his m8's hdtv;
i'd save your money if i were you, as after xmas, there's newer tv's coming out, which should drop currant hdtv's in2 better price range
