ps2 rumble gone

Aug 25, 2007 5:50AM PDT

for a while now i have not had any rumble in my multiple controllers and games with the there rumble options all on. I tried my controllers and games and memory card at a friends house so now i know this problem has to do with the ps2 itself. How do i fix my ps2 to get the rumble feature back into my games. any help will be apreciated

May not be worth it

Sounds like something with the controller assembly went bad. I haven't actually taken apart my slim PS2, but the "fat" one uses a ribbon cable to connect it to the main system. You can probably still buy replacements for these, but it'd probably cost about 1/4-1/3 the price of a new console.

I'd just learn to live without it. I find I rather like not having it, though I disable it because I have a cordless controller and it's to prolong battery life.

The PS2 System

If it's as you say, and the rumble feature on the controllers works on other PS2 systems, then there's something wrong with your PS2 console's controller assembly.

Upon looking, it doesn't seem as if the slimline (PSTwo) has a replaceable controller assembly. If you have an older "fat" model, without knowing if it's the assembly itself or the ribbon cable, you'd have to get both, and it'd run you about 30USD before shipping. Of course I can say from experience, it's a real pain in the **** to put things like that into the console. You have to rip the thing completely apart to get at the connection point for the ribbon cable, and any careless action could ruin the entire console.

If it were me, I'd be setting aside some money to buy a new console should yours up and die. It may never happen, it might die tomorrow. Best to be prepared for the worst case scenario, while hoping it never comes to pass.
