PS-50A558, DVT Surround

Mar 8, 2009 7:37AM PDT

Hi!

I have a PS-50A558 connected to my Sony surround system via an optical cabel. I have the internal DTV set to "Dolby Digital".

It works when the broadcast is in 2ch PCM, but when a Dolby broadcast comes along the Sony receiver never syncs to Dolby Digital. It's a bit confusing because the TV strips of the voices, exactly as if it had synced up Dolby.

I know that there is nothing wrong with my receiver because it works when i have a external DTV-box plugged in via the optical port.

Is there any surround support via the optical output or am I missing any settings?

Thanks in advance!

andreaswebb,

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be sending the Dolby signal directly from the television. I thought it might be a setting on the tuner (toggled on and off), but if it works with a different box, it could be that the broadcast isn't transmitting Dolby at all, or through the tuner.

Are you using the external box on the TV? If not, it could be that it's broadcast through a box with Dolby, but not OTA in Dolby.

I'm using the built in box. I know that the broadcast is in Dolby.

When I'm testing with an external box, I have the box connected to the TV via Scart and to the receiver via optical. The sound doesn't go via the TV at all.
