The Keyboard failure is quite common and I've found about half the time the keyboard fuse (often marked F1) is blown. Figure a nickel part and 120 bucks of labor.

I didn't see the exact Dell so I went with the usual first find about the old PS2 keyboard fuse.

Hi,
Dell Inspiron 3000 - XP Pro
PS/2 Dell keyboard
At boot up PC asks for Admin password, I have the password but the keyboard will not work.
Black screen says:
Keyboard failure
Enter password then hit enter to keep password
Hit alt/enter to remove password.
Tried 2 other keyboards that work, no go.
This the black & white screen, like command prompt, before windows opens.
The password was added by me, in Set Up, a few days ago, but now the keyboard will not type characters into the password text field.
Is this common?
I found similar threads / questions but not for my exact problem.
Is there a way to reset the key board?
Thank you.
