prpblem with IEFIX

Apr 13, 2005 10:24AM PDT

I downloaded IEFIX to try to repair IE6, it didn't work and ever since, everytime I reboot I get this message

"internet explorer has been removed from this computer.Do you want to clean up your personalised settings for this program?"

I'm not sure what the consequences of doing so might be, how can I Stop it?

What will happen to my address book, for example if I click on yes?

Your post is too similar to a post in the Security Forum.

Sorry Bob, but I posted over there because you told me I should. I think there are actually two seperate issues here, there is the trojan, which the security forum will hopefully sort out and this issue which is not anything to do with the trojan but IEFIX. I didn't have this particular problem until you advised me to run IEFIX, I now realise the one I downloaded was an older version which prompts XP users to reset the registry so that IE can be reinstalled.

Ever since I did that my computer thinks it has been uninstalled but it hasn't.Now I have downloaded another version of IEFIX which doesn't have that feature and since I overwrote the files, it has gone.

I have a suspicion that the security forum won't want to discuss what is actually a communications and messaging issue. They will suggest I ask you about it.

Could you tell me, if I opt for the "clean up your personalised settings for this program" next time I reboot, what is likely to happen to my address book?

Oops.

Actually I didn't connect this new post with the old one since you didn't note the prior discussions.

Your issue is, in my view simple TROJAN damage. Simple as to the cause, but the cure may be a total OS reinstall. But don't give up yet.

Take the last advice about HIJACKTHIS and get a reading on that.

It never was asked, but what ANTIVIRUS are you using?

Hi Bob
As you'll see on the security forum I seem to have got rid of the trojan thanks to your advice but I'm still left with this IE problem,

After reinstalling IE temporarily so I could run a scan at housecall I've gone back to firefox but I'm still being asked if I want to clean up my personalised settings for IE when I reboot.

What are my "personalised settings"?
