Question

Proxy server keeps turning on

Mar 8, 2015 10:49AM PDT

Recently, my proxy server, under my LAN settings, keeps turning itself on, & then I get a message that my browser isn't configured for the proxy server. I went to one website for help, & their recommendations were totally unintelligable to me. They said to run something called MGTools, but my McAfee wouldn't let it download. I use a laptop, 64 bit system, with Windows 7, My browser I'm using is Opera.

I ran Ad Aware, plus my Advanced System Care 8, & no malware, or any other bad stuff. And, it just started this a couple of weeks ago.

Ok, what I did was just reinstall windows 7, & see if that helps the problem. If not, I'll be back picking brains again. Thanks for all the suggestions.

A piece of suggestion
Mar 8, 2015 8:11PM PDT

1. Firstly go to menu<settings<preferences.
2.Click on the proxy server button
3.Go on to check the boxes for the protocols for whom you want proxy to affect.
4.In the proxy field, enter IP address and in the port field enter the port.
5. Enter OK and re-start opera.

Hopefully, this piece of information will help you to change the proxy settings.

But, I don't want the proxy server on at all. I use U-Verse wi fi at home, so don't need a proxy server.

Use Bob's suggestion.

If the usual advice by Grif flunks I begin to worry about the choice of security apps. Let's get the scans done.

But worth noting is that some malware is booby trapped. As we all know about backup, I'll pause here.

After I uninstalled Adaware, I installed AVG for my anti virus protector. I ran a scan, & it found 5 errors, & cleaned them. But, when I turned it on this morning, the proxy server is checked again.
