Resolved Question

Programs not downloading

Nov 16, 2011 2:58AM PST

Good afternoon,
I have tried to download some programs and they either aren't downloading or I can't find them (not in download stack).
For example, I tried to download the Mozy program (off site data storage). It wouldn't download for nuthin'. The tech finally sent me the program through email.
I just tried to download from another site and got the same thing.
The address bar highlights as though it is going to the new link but then I just get the same page to download from again.
What am I doing wrong?

An example or two would be helpful.

Firefox is a good browser that you can download and try.

(if you can downloaded it)

Give it a try

It won't download!

Thanks mrmacfixit. Firefox won't download. Do you have any idea what is going on or how I would go about trying to fix this? I changed the security in system preferences to the lowest setting thinking that might be my problem; nada.

Let's try something else.
Nov 17, 2011 9:32AM PST

Go to System Preferences > Users and Groups and create a new account there.
Make sure that the account has Admin rights.
Once done, close System Preferences and log out. Apple Menu > Log out <your name>

Not sure what is going on here,
Nov 18, 2011 1:23AM PST

what version of OS X are you using?

We could go with an Archive and Install of the OS which will load a new copy of OS X on your computer but leave all your data intact.

Before that though, seems that a plug-in call Speed Download can cause this problem.
Go to the Library > Internet Plug-ins, find the Speed Download file and drag it to the desktop.
(This is the MAIN library and NOT your personal Library)

If you did install Speed Downloader, there is an uninstaller in the original installer. That is the preferred way to get rid of it.

Let us know what plug-ins are in that library folder.

You did it again, mrmacfixit! The speed download plug in seemed to be the culprit. I am now downloading programs from the net, once again.

Incomplete video's
Nov 19, 2011 2:01AM PST

I am also having trouble seeing a complete video on you tube. About 90% of it will download but the remaining few seconds just don't. I've tried to watch a dozen videos where this has happened consistently.
