Unless you can get HP to guarantee no bugs like this I wouldn't do this to the v2582us.
As to the v5000 I can't research that since I'm not exactly sure of the model number.

Ok, I want to upgrade from XP Professional to Vista Ultimate.
My laptop is a Compaq Presario V2582us, AMD Turion 64 processior ML-34, 1.8Ghz, 1024MB RAM, 100GB HD with Windows XP 2002 Service Pack 2. Is my laptop compatible with this new Vista Ultimate? Is there a program I can run that will tell me if it is compatible?
I also have a Compaq Presario V5000 series, Intel Celeron M CPU 410, 1.46 Ghz, 40GB HD 512MB RAM with Windows XP Home 2002, Service pack 2.
And a HP a1010n Desktop with Intel Celeron D 340 512MB RAM, 200GB HD, Windows Home with SP2.
I will appreciate your help very much! Thank you!

That's bumming me out! That's the laptop I use! ![]()
What bout the desktop?
And it said that the Vista Business would be the best choice for my laptop, and that there are some programs that wouldnt be compatible, or would have issues with...
Maybe I could email you what it said...
In this forums and other places people are reporting the adviser gives the machine a passing grade but when installed Vista shows up with issues like the one I noted. Unless you can get HP to back you up by offering a full refund of your Vista purchase if it doesn't work out I would not do this.

Or get another computer in the future with Vista already on it...
What a bummer, I was really looking forward to go buying it tonight.
Thanks for your help.

Why the impulse to go Vista? In looking at the Vista forum, and PCWorld and PCMag, ANY machine that is close to borderline will have trouble. And many updated and powerful machines are suspect. Vista has dropped the ball on drivers for many peripherials and software. And now, Vista has been hit.

Just wondering. Vista is broken.
