Question

Professional Website Review

Sep 14, 2016 5:10AM PDT

Hi,
I am after some additional professional opinions on the build and functionality of my new site www.mygiftgenie.com

My reason for asking is that when you work for so long on a project it is very difficult to gain a brutally objective perspective - that is what I'm after if you are able to find the time.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

It is awesome you are asking for this because it means you really care about your work. Also, you know how important your website is.

Here is what I discovered when going through your website.

Home Page
1. It wasn't immediately clear what you do when I went to your site on a mobile device. You have the phrase "Never forget your Special Events Always find the Perfect Gift" as your top message. However, on mobile, you remove the top banner and the statement above the footer. This causes a huge break in the knowledge of your visitor.
What I would is to move the how it works section back above the Gift boxes and then also make sure you include the what someone will get from using your service. Mobile or desktop someone should be able to answer the following "What do you do? What do I get from it? Where do I buy?"

2. I would take your images and run them through a service like TinyPNG. This service will take your images and compress them so your website will load faster. I tested this with your largest image and dropped the size by 54% while losing none of the quality.
You can see the image here (Image)

3. One of my favorite phrases on your entire home page is the last one on the page. "we do the hard work so that you can get the brownie points." This positions the site visitor as the winner when they work with you. I would recommend moving this phrase up on your page.

4. Right below the "How it works" section you have great information. I love how you walk the visitor through your exact process. Breaking into 3 steps also makes it seem simple and doesn't overwhelm your visitor. The only thing I noticed here was you have "1, 2, 3" as links to the login page. This seems out of place and I think it would be best to remove the links from them.

Overall, your website is amazing. I think if you tightened up your images and then made a couple of homepage edits you are all set.

I have a guide on some of the tools I use when analyzing websites. It has some of the tools I use and some further insights about launching a site. You can find it here

I love your site and I think you are well on your way to an awesome business

Best Regards,

Chris
