It is not clear just what has been done. Assuming I got part of what the post says, a new computer with no OS has been completed and Windows 7 upgrade 64 bit install has been attempted but the product key is not accepted. Also assuming the product key in question is the one for Windows 7, Make sure the key is for the version of windows 7 IE: install is Home Premium and key is for Home Premium. BTW: key will work for 32 bit or 64 bit. Take a look here:

If the error code/message is like the one shown, then the answer on how to fix it is there, also. Hope that helps.
so yeah, i just built a new computer. i am a student so i bought a 64 bit windows 7 disk. i had a windows vista 32 bit i bought a while ago and never used. so i figured i'd upgrade. well, i had a clean install obviously and from what i understand, you can't go from 32 bit to 64 bit without erasing and starting over. all fine and dandy except now i can't enter my product key validly without getting an error. i'm now on a 30 day trial thing with windows 7 and i'm not sure what to do about it. i purchased it and all. if i swipe and install vista 32 bit and then upgrade with the 64 bit 7, can i do that some how? thanks.
