processor and motherboard

My computer is eight years old and i was thinking of building a computer.I have five users on this computer and we use it to surf the internet,play internet games runescape and poker,my space,down load music.We also burn music cds and would like to burn vidios.We also edit vidio from camcorder,and pictures from camara.I like intel core 2 duo but i dont know which one.

On speed and choice of CPUs

Windows is not a true 64bit system, nor is it very stable with smp.
Buy whatever you can afford, and use the recommended programs.
If using a *n*x system, try for a stable base such as Debian, RedHat, FreeBSD, OpenBSD.

On CPU reviews: These are done with only one operating system. You are not being told an unbiased opinion.

That will rile some but there was only a few attempts to make all the system 64-bit.

Windows works fine on SMP systems so you can take that other comment as some OS basher's weak attempt to promote another OS.
