In this days what is recomended to buy a pentium 4 or amd athlon

be equally important. For now I'd say Intel w the 865 or 875 chipset. In 8 to 10 months possibly the latest AMD 64 bit CPU. Right now the configurations of the AMD CPU are confusing, and, as usual, it takes a lot of debugging before any chipset vendor gets it right for an AMD processor [because AMD does NOT develop chipsets]. In addition AMD's 64 bit will have a new socket configuration again in a few months [not in any way backward compatible]. Pretty good info in Maximum PC magazine's Nov 03 issue.
