Problems with Windows Media Player

I have been trying to connect to my usual radio stations through WMP 10 and no luck so far after hitting the more information it said it would give this is the answer I got
"C00D1197: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your computer is not connected to the local area network (LAN) or to the Internet. Connect to the network or Internet, and then try again.
The path to the file is not valid. If you typed a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) in the Open URL dialog box, verify that the file name is spelled correctly and that the path to the file is correct, and then try again. If you clicked a link on a Web page, the link might not be valid.
The server is not available (for example, the server is busy or not online). Try again later.
Some network protocols in the Player are not enabled. Enable all network protocols, and then try again.
The proxy server settings for the Player are not configured properly. Verify that your proxy settings are correct, and then try again.
To enable all network protocols
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Network tab.
In the Streaming protocols area, select all the protocol check boxes.
To verify your proxy server settings
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Network tab.
Verify your settings in the Streaming proxy settings area.
Note

If you do not know what your proxy server settings should be, on the Network tab, select a protocol, click Configure, and then select Autodetect proxy settings or Use proxy settings of the Web browser (available for HTTP protocol only).

I have tried everything they said I should and on WMP I can't get the Network tab to open to configure anything, even tried to open the Guide, but nothing happened. Yes I have reinstalled it again and still no luck in getting to any radiostation through it. PLEASE HELP

Problems with not-as-stock setups.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=834483 tells about WMP has problems when other software modifies the registry.

Microsoft's own applications didn't expect this and there is not always a cure. But do try the one in the above article. If you don't, please tell why you didn't.

Read it still nowhere nearer a solution

I have read the article, but nowhere does it say anything about WMP10 only 9 and it is all greek to me, being blonde and all :S I really thought by reinstalling it I could solve the problem

A small problem is..

Microsoft does not update all KB articles as the versions progress. For those who want said articles to match exactly, then they have to call the MS Support Line and pay the fees.

I offer this article as a possible safe resolution. If you will not try simple items (well, not simple for all), then we can't fix it here.

Still no resolution

the heading of the message reads "You receive error 0xC00D1197 when you play an audio CD in Windows Media Player 9 Series" I do not have a problem in playing cd's, my problem is listening to my usual radio stations, maybe I am just too stupid to comprehend the difference :S

Network tab

The network tab on WMP10 isn't working,if it was I couldve corrected it. The minute I open the options the whole centre of WMP disappears :S

It's a Microsoft issue.

They do not update the articles so I've learned to use them when the error code looks close and the problem (audio playback) is similar.

Sorry to say, but Microsoft shows no sign of updating said articles to help us out.

It's sad to see people struggle with this issue and it explains a great deal why people end up wiping out the system and starting over.

Best of luck,

Bob
