PROBLEMS with Vista and MySpace???

Feb 22, 2007 4:30AM PST

I just recently bought a new HP laptop with Vista already installed. Everything is working great EXCEPT I am a MySpace junkie and live away from a majority of my friends and I can NOT access MySpace!!! Every time I go to MySpace I can check my mail and bulletins and such, but as soon as I click on someone's profile it shuts my computer down and makes it restart. I bought a new wireless router to make sure it wasn't a problem with my router but it is still happening!!! Can ANYONE tell me what the problem is or how to maybe fix it??? PLEASE?!?!?!?!?!?! I enjoy the computer but am wondering if Vista blocks MySpace?! I would think it would just give me a warning or something, but it shuts the computer down with no warning at all!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

My space
Feb 23, 2007 12:55AM PST

I do not know what the problem is but I can say it is not a My Space problem as kids in my house all use My Space and all of its functions. Everything works fine. They did have to allow the "pop up blockers" which is under tools. and I'm using vista premuim. good luck though.

thanks!

Thank you! I'll try anything at this point! I always considered MySpace for school kids and college kids, but it has been an amazing resource for keeping me in touch with friends out of town! I also have Norton and SpySweeper which I am wondering if those have anything to do with it?! Thank you for the advice!!

Norton?
Feb 23, 2007 1:24PM PST

Norton itself can be the reason norton doesn't work, it could also be the reason your hard drive fails.. your feet smell.. you sweat alot. The list goes on. Get rid of it.

I have NO idea and NO ONE can tell me anything!!! If you hear of anything PLEASE let me know!! When did you buy your laptop? Does it have Vista? I just think it's odd that mine works EXCEPT when I am home....UGH!!!

Your not alone
Mar 8, 2007 12:00PM PST

Hi everyone, this is my first time here. As all previous posts, I too am having massive issues with this vista. I just bought my laptop Asus Pro31F, and am having the same problems with myspace, disconnecting me each and everytime. Other things I have noticed is that it takes longer to boot up, pages download alot slower. I cant play dvd's, they come up all scrambled, checked out a few forums aboutt that issue, and its a copyright issue where they are trying to prevernt pirating ?? Laptop came with a digital usb tv tuner, and that too doesnt work. It's a pain in the *** each and everytime you change any sort of settings, eg. font size, you have to re-start the computer. I work for BigPond (please dont hold that against me) lol...and the cusotmers that I have spoken to are having the same problems, I was told by our tech team that the problems are only for new sign up customers for vista, and if they had a previous account with any other ISP it would work thru the ethernet. This is not true. I spoke to a customer last week who was in tears while she was waiting for her adsl to be remediated. Customer had been hand balled back and fourth to tech support and billing upto 7 times. She was with another provider, but decided to take up our offer for free modem. Customer was also business customer who relied heavily on her computer for a internet connection. I am a billing consultant, I am not a technical minded person at all but I finally found the instructions on how to walk her thru the problem and attempt to set her up with a temp dial up account till her adsl issues were sorted out. I went so far into the tech stuff I didnt know what was talking about, but I read it word for word from the script. I called her 15 minutes later to see if it was working, and it wasnt. She told me that every single tech person she spoke to told her a different story and one tech was even honest enough to tell her flat out, sorry we cant help you as we have not be trained in that area yet. As someone who works for such a big company like Telstra Bigpond, I cant believe that microsoft would release software out into the general public before they give us the software so we can update ours. This really makes my head spin. To be totally honest, when customers in the past would ring up about not being able to connect I would help them to the best of my ability but I didnt have it in me to be able to empathise with them. Well now I do, with every disgruntled caller telling me vista is crap, I totally understand and explain to them my situation, its only then that they look at me as a person and not a telstra robot. Untill they sort out all these issues, (if they ever do) vista is not worth the money you pay to upgrade, and makes XP look like a dream and alot more modern and easier to use. I got the best deal with my computer at Myer (can you believe that) ?? And I just called them and told them the probs, they are going to call Asus and call me back. Will let you all know the verdict. For the money I paid for this laptop, I am thinking of telling them that I want XP installed and refunded the money for the vista. A kind friend has lent me his laptop so I can go to my beloved myspace and hopefully talk to all you myspace junkies there. Would love to hear from you and see if your problems have been fixed. Just a wild guess....
Feb 28, 2007 9:01AM PST

Do you have any parental control on? Look through the list of blocked sites(if any) and if one is myspace, unblock it. Do you have any other parental control program besides Windows Parental Control? Sorry if this is really obvious but just a thought.

Check Norton Parental Control?

- Collapse -
nope...
Feb 28, 2007 9:07AM PST

no parental controls on...I have double checked EVERYTHING!! So...in reply to person with same problem as me...I also bought mine at Circuit City! No one understands anything about why it is happening!!! It's just insane, though, because it works in places other than my house! It's just all crazy!! Too bad we aren't able to get on MySpace...we could talk on there! haha!! Wink

Mar 6, 2007 2:59AM PST

Launi---i said screw it, and i returned the computer and everything else to circuit city. i am tired of trying to figure it out. i also found that the web pages load extremely slow, and it takes a while for the computer to boot up. i am DONE with Vista until all the bugs get fixed.. i also think its not compatible with itunes, another unfortunate thing. VISTA GETS TWO THUMBS DOWN FROM ME!!!

HAHAHA
Mar 6, 2007 3:25AM PST

I do NOT blame you AT ALL!!!! I think I am going to try down grading to XP first...did you try that or have you heard anything about that??? You'll have to look me up on MySpace!! Wink Just do a search for Launi in Roswell, GA! Take care and good luck!

Got it !!!
Mar 8, 2007 1:39PM PST

Me again....ok after ringing around the state for tech help, I finally got the myspace issue sorted out. What I had to do was install firefox as my internet explorer. Never heard of it before, but I did it and now it seems to be working. And the page looks alot user friendly than vista, actually looks similar to XP. Only thing I havent found yet is the favourites tab. Hope that helps you guys in some way.

Firefox

When you install Firefox as your browser you can import your favorites from IE to Firefox. If you did that you can find your favorites listed as "bookmarks" at the top of the Firefox screen.

HAHAHA pop up that shuts down computer
Jul 1, 2008 1:02AM PDT

I was getting a popup that said '"hahaha" and then it would shut down my computer (new laptop)
I found out my son had got on my account (administrator account)
and set up a fake virus.
When I clicked on the internet explorer a pop up would come up that said hahaha and it would shut down the computer.
He created a fake icoc that looked like internet explorer and hid my real internet explorer in my e-music folder.
So I had to just delete the fake icon and find the path where he hid my internet explorer and drag it back to my desk top.
There is a website that shows how to create these "fake viruses" and you can type what ever you want in the pop up so when someone clicks on whatever you created the fake virus for such as word or internet explorer (these are commonly used programs) what ever they typed in the pop up such as "hahaha" or "your computer has committed suicide have a nice day"
I hope this helped

Same Problem with XP and Myspace
Mar 1, 2007 9:25AM PST

My daughter is also a myspace junkie. We have a Dell desktop (Not bought at Circuit City) and are still running XP. Myspace works fine sometimes but for the most part the PC freezes as soon as she clicks on a Profile. I too am interested in any information as to why this happens. None of her friends have this problem and a lot of them are running XP too. Help!

UPDATE: Same Problem with MySpace and XP
May 26, 2007 10:44PM PDT

Ready for this. I just moved a few cities away from my previous city. Time Warner was my old ISP and is still my new ISP; however, ever since moving MySpace works absolutely fine and NEVER freezes even though all hardware and ISP is exactly the same. That points to some issue on the ISP side to me but no clue what it could be. Just in case it means anything to someone else.

MySpace works fine for me.
Mar 14, 2007 11:19PM PDT

I have not had any problems with Myspace with my Vista Home Premuim machine. I have all the pop up blockers, phishing filters, and so on turned on and it all works fine. I can see my and other profiles - hear the songs- watch videos and all the other stuff. Maybe you have an overzelous anti-virus. I run McAfee and it has not caused any Myspace problems.

Got it to work!!!
Mar 15, 2007 1:11AM PDT

Looks like THAT problem is solved...now onto the rest of the problems with my computer! Like why does my computer clock time change every day??? Geesh!!!

IE 7 and Vista do have problems with MySpace
Jul 24, 2007 3:53AM PDT

5 out of 10 times, when im on the site, my computer crashes. if you try to use the IM feature, the typing is slow and unresponsive. Other sites cause my machine to crash too (Dell 1501). I just called Dell and they are sending me a new machine, but i would not be surprised if this continued. I think its an issue with IE and Vista.

Try using Mozilla Firefox as the browser rather than IE...I promise it works MUCH better...especially with MySpace for some reason!

Please help - Vista Dell XPS410 and MySpace problems
Aug 10, 2007 4:10PM PDT

Hi, I am running a Dell XPS410 with Vista. When i set up my MySpace account i had an E-machine with XP SP2. Now when i go to my profile page on MySpace, i cannot see any graphics on the left hand side of my page, and only one or two comments are showing on my Profile page on my computer. I'm told by friends that my page looks the same to them, so i know it's not a MySpace issue. I'm thinking it must have something to do with Vista. Any ideas would be ever so helpful. Really would appreciate some help - thanks!!!!! Persephone8310

Trouble with MYSPACE and running OS VISTA too!!!
Aug 11, 2007 5:07AM PDT

I also have a Vista OS, Dell XPS410. Opened my MYSPACE with an E-machine with XP & SP2 and it worked fine. Now, although my friends can see my graphics and Comments, i cannot see the whole left side of the page and only one or two comments will post on my MYSPACE page. So what to do? Vista is troublesome. I hope someone can find an answer to your problems (and mine!) Good luck. Persephone8310

re: problems
Aug 14, 2007 9:52AM PDT

Sounds as though this could be a driver problem or perhaps an incompatiable program. Go the HP website to see if there are any updated drivers. This could also be caused by flash or Java problems, try downloading those updates as well.

Firefox Mozilla
Aug 18, 2007 3:02PM PDT

I did the download for Firefox Mozilla and can now access MYSPACE again. 3 of my graphics are still missing, but at least most are there. I cannot seem to use my AOL Browser (which i prefer) or my I.E. Browser.

I also went to www.java.com and checked to see if i was running the correct version. The program said 'no' so i did a download, did the agreement page, but then was told that it was not AOL compatible! So now what do i do? Uninstall? I use Java with I.E. (i think, as it's there at the top of the page). Sorry that this is turning into a project!!!! Certainly not my intention.

Thanks for all the Help. Persephone8310

SpySweeper
Aug 19, 2007 1:07AM PDT

Hey all! I am the one that originally posted this whole thing! Happy I had NO idea that so many people would be having the same problems!!! I just wanted to let everyone know that once I un-installed Spy Sweeper it has worked with absolutely NO problems whatsoever! So, try checking your Anti-virus and Spyware if you have them...the sales guy at Circuit City had recommended those 2 when I bought my HP Laptop with Vista on it, said they were compatible...but the ARE NOT very compatible with Vista!! Once I removed Spy Sweeper MySpace started working like a charm and I have had NO problems with Vista and MySpace since then! I do, however, use Mozilla Firefox as my browser. Good luck, all!!! Happy We should all find each other on MySpace after all of these posts! haha! Just do a search for Launi in Roswell, GA! Happy
