problems with the Sound control panel

Hi,
in the last days the Sound icon in the tray disappeared. When I try to re-insert it through the control panel I only get the message:
Can't visualize the volume control in the application bar because the application Volume Control hasn't been installed. To install, use the Install Application in the Control Panel.
Well, there's no such application in the Control Panel, how can I proceed?

Best Regards.

When I try to re-insert it through the control panel

How did you "insert" it ? Did you open up the "Sound and Audio Devices" at the Control Panel and put a check at the box where it says "Place volume icon in the task bar" ?

Hi,
and thanks for your reply.
Yes, I did but, when I flag the checkbox, I only get an error message asking me to install a component of the operating system that I can't find in the 'install applications' panel.

If you have any idea please let me know...

Best Regards

What form does the error message take, i.e. is it in "MS Window" and if so, what is in the title bar (i.e the normally blue title bar) ?
