Resolved Question

problems with SuperAnti Spyware program

Jul 31, 2011 6:49AM PDT

I am having problems with this program opening. I installed the free version over a year ago and upgraded to what they call the pro version which is paid @ 19.95. Then I had to renew, which I did. its supposed to have life time updates. Today when I click on the icon in my taskbar. (pinned) it will not open. I have it set to do updates and then the control page opens when that is finished. From there is the preferences and also manual updates and the button for scanning. It seems to be messed up.What to do? dispose of it and go with a different anti spyware? I have Norton for my anti vir. program. I see that Malewarebytes is recommended here which i have had before. The technician from my local Staples store says that SpyBot isn't compatible ith WIN 7. He indicated there are some issues with that running on WIN 7. Which I have. ( 64-bit o.s.) computers sure make me tired. I feel like I can't win for losing !! i_mgrateful always for help.

SUPERAntiSpyware issues..

imgrateful_1 ..

From what I gather, after reading some threads at the SUPERAntiSpyware Forum, there seems to be a problem with a recent update. Some are experiencing issues, where SAS is warning them their homepage changed, when in fact there was no change. Other's are reporting similar issues as you described. In this particular thread, a Pro user running Windows 7 has quite a few issues after an update on July 29th.

I can't say with certainty this is the cause of your specific problem. Only that there are varied complaints, after a/the recent update. As far as I can tell, those who help at the forum have yet to respond. My guess is there may be little help during the weekend.

I would suggest keeping an eye on the SUPERAntiSpyware Forum. No doubt, the problem will be addressed some time during the day. Some have tried re-installing the program, with little success. (You might want to try it anyway)

You asked if you should dispose of it. It's not uncommon to experience a problem with an update, every once in a while. (IF that happens to be the case/cause) I don't know which Norton program you have installed. Or if there's a possibility of a conflict with SAS. If you haven't had a problem thus far, I would think not.

You also asked about Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. I see no reason you can't run the free version, as a stand-alone scanner. A second opinion never hurts.

Best of luck..

Thanks so much Carol. the situation you describe is exactly as it happened to me. I'm thinking its one of those temporary glitches. I have Norton 360.

A fix for the "issue" is in the works! :)

imgrateful..

In the first thread I referenced above, Nick (aka SUPERAntiSpy / Site Admin) posted the following:

'We have located and resolved the problem. This ONLY happens on 64 bit systems, and with users running an older SASCORE64.EXE. This is one of those issues that is hard to find in standard "testing". We are updating the 4.56 package now (testing, then releasing) so that the issue won't happen. We apologize for the inconvenience and I will update this thread when the new 4.56 is ready. We appreciate everyone alerting us!'

Shortly thereafter, he posted again instructing users to..

'Download the current version from our homepage and install, then the updater will resolve the issue when we release the new version. '

Check the thread, where he said he would notify members when the new version is released. Once released and installed, SAS should be up and running (normally) again. OR.. at least I hope so! Wink

ALL is well. I got the uninstall link for SAS and then install the new version. Thanks Oh yes. I would be happy to post those links for anyone else that has discovered the problem.
