problems with sound

Hiya I wonder if anyone could help us one of our computers has no sound it is a hp Me. It wont let us adjust the volume no matter which we try. We cant get it to open the volume control either. We have put the restore disks in and still nothing. We have checked speakers etc. No sound and not turning volume up. Please could you help. Thankyou David and Rebecca

If the restore CDs don't work to fix this, there is a possibility the onboard sound is:

1. Disabled in the BIOS.
2. The sound hardware has developed a defect.

For item 1, you can check your manual on the BIOS settings. There are too many HP machines so I can't tell you exactly where the setting is.

For item 2, I usually just disable the onboard sound in the bios, purchase a sound card and install that.

We arent sure how to do the bios settings the hewlett packard pavilion 7865 ME Thankyou for your suggestions We may have to take to a shop and get them to check it out incase it is the sound card. Rebecca and David
