Question

Problems with nexus 10. Need help.

Feb 15, 2013 11:30AM PST

Hi, i recently bought a Nexus 10, and I've been having 3 big issues with it so far, and I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice before I just return it.

Issue 1: I've been having a lot of trouble with the wifi connection. On the 1st night I received it, it took a lot of fidgeting with the router even to get it to connect, and the connection took a long time, was slow, and dropped frequently. It wouldn't even work at all on one of the 2 routers we have. Since then, internet has been slow and unstable, and videos have had every problem from quality drops, to constant buffering, to even a complete freeze.

We have 2 other mobile wifi devices, an ipad 1 and 2. Neither have the same issues as the nexus, nor to the extent that it does. They have the known problem with the youtube app, but no disconnects or slow load times.

I've read mixed things about this. Everything from the device is defective, to there is a problem with android 4.2 that may get patched, to various wifi and router setting changes.

This is a huge issue that I need to either get resolved or I need to return the device. Any insight is appreciated.

The other 2 problems are less severe but are nuisances I'd like to address if I get the wifi fixed.

2: While I have locked the rotation, the Youtube app still automatically rotates with the device's orientation, which creates a tiny horizontal video when the device is vertical. I tend to use it when lying on my side, so having it rotate like this is a problem.

3: Since podcasts don't seem to be directly downloadable from googleplay, I've been using a RSS reader to get them, however, it seems to not actually download the file, and thus can't be accessed without internet. It also doesn't save position in the podcast when you pause and move to do something else, so I can't come back to the podcast either.

Anyway, if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

It turned out that my router was also know to give iPads trouble so I researched about this online and the boards told me to try an older router firmware. Much better (works) now.

As to YouTube issue, yup, apps have buggs. Some folk think all these bugs shouldn't be there. If you feel if such should be bug free, it's time to return the product.

And about the podcast. I don't use that so I didn't see the issue. Look around for the podcast author and their web site to grab the full file.

update

As of last night, problems have been fixed. Google released a patch which seems to have cleared the issue. Now runs smoothly and hasn't dropped connection once.

As for the other issues, I found user made app workarounds to fix tne m.

Coolness.

I have the Nexus 7 and had issues. I did the research and since the model router had issues with iPads I took the other solution. (change/fix the router.)

Good to read there were other solutions as some folk are loathe to change any router setting. Sorry for the typo above.

And how's the 10? My Nexus 7 is quite the little demon. I did get a keyboard cover/stand for it and the bluetooth mouse has a new buddy.

But mine was fine before that patch. I followed the router maker's advice and all good now.
