Problems with new build

Sep 22, 2010 12:08PM PDT

ASUS P7P55D-ELX MB, Kingston 4 gig Hyper X T1 RAM, Intel i5-750 Lynnfield, MSI Twin Frozr 1 gig NVidia Video Card all in a Cool Master Case. Using prior 1T HDD and 650W pwr supply.

Installed everything and powered up. All fans turn on but no POST beep and nothing happens after turn on. I have re-seated CPU, RAM and reconnected all cables to make sure all is correct. Even changed SATA cables to HDD. Still nothing. I was told some new systems do not beep on start up POST so I do not know if I should or should not hear this. Others systems I have built in the past have all beeped.

Don't know where to go from here. Purchased all new items from Newegg.

Thanks in advance.

Some checks

By nothing, you mean "no display". As for no beep on POST, while most systems do beep, those that don't have a LED display or actual small POST output to review. If yours doesn't have that then it should beep.

Recheck your work and be sure to mount on cardboard outside of case. Build a minimum system, and check results. If it works then, possible short via the mounting posts or such. Next, enter the bios if possible and verify the setting. You may need to play with them as "computability/legacy" setting need to be on. If unable to enter bios, verify the bios/CMOS clearing pins, use them to return to defaults, retry to boot. By fans on, is all always on or for a short moment? Do HDDs remain spinning, etc.. Are all video cables seated or located correctly? If none of these seems to work, try the components on another system to shortlist items that tested OK. You don't need any drives installed if trying to access the bios display. If it doesn't display possible video issue at this low level of build(try another video card).

Problem with homebuild

I cannot detect anything except the fans coming on and continuing to run. Cannot hear any activity from the HDD. Nothing on monitor to inspect. I do have another video card to install and I will try that.

Thanks for the reply.

Some more

Modern HDDs can be very quiet, thus placing finger/hand touch to see if you notice activity. be sure the spkr. is connected or active if unhooked, the reason for no beep(s). If the fans run and if HDDs are are active, then video side could be at fault. Otherwise, it maybe your PSU is overwhelmed on a power leg and can't provide the stable voltage/amps needed to the device/component connected. This only harder as no video is displayed. Be sure the ram is seated in proper slots as well or swap them around.
