Problems with IE 6.0

by dawillie / September 23, 2007 5:16 AM PDT

I need some help please.

Running XP-PRO-SP-2 fully patched, AVG, Spybot, Ad- Aware and Windows Bit Defender.

All definitions current and scans remove the tracking cookies.

64-bit processor 1GB RAM and behind a firewall.

The problems are as follows and have begun recently, say within the last 30 days.

For the record have been with IE since the days of IE 3.0.

Problem # 1.

I periodically cannot open the browser.

Problem # 2.

Sometime I am in the middle of reading something and get the 'Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close'.

Then it goes into the error reporting and the browser shuts down.

Problem #3.

Sometimes shut down/ re-start hangs and then I get at least two 'program not responding' messages about iexplore.exe so I have to manually 'end task'.

I note also that my task manager sometimes shows at least 2-3 instances of iexplore.exe even when the browser is not open e.g. when reading mail in Outlook Express.

Problem # 4.

When in Outlook Express I have difficulty opening a link someone sends me.

I sometimes can open by C&P into a browser window and sometimes not.

Believe this may be as a result of periodic inability to open the browser.

As stated before all security scans come clean.

I have also run a check disc and sfc /scannow and added *.dlls from the installation disc.

I have read in both Aumha and Big Blue Ball and cannot seem to find anything on point.

For the record this post is hanging with the 'opening page http://forums.cnet.com' in the bottom of the browser.

Hope this will be posted.

What needs to be done to fix this browser problem.

T/Y in advance.

David Williams

In reply to: Try BHODEMON.

Went to the site you provided, this was what I saw.....

"I am very sorry, but BHODemon is currently on hiatus, as I no longer have the time to devote to it (due to a house fire). You will not be able to download updates or upload reports, and I will no longer be answering emails. At some point, BHODemon may return. I would like to thank everyone for their support over the years."

Will try and d/l and run what is available.

In the alternative, if you are aware of some other malware remover, I am willing to try it as well.

For the record I did run Pervx2 and it scanned clean as well.

Thank you.

Will run for a while and report what happens.

Thank you.

The Samsung RF23M8090SG

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
