Problems with helpctr.exe

by bought_by_god / June 5, 2004 4:50 AM PDT

I am working in Windows ME and have had problems with the helpctr program loading itself over and over again whenever the computer sits idle. within about 30 minutes of idle activity it usually reloads about 6-8 times. By the time an hour roles by, my only option is to shutdown or reboot my computer. Last night I forgot to turn my computer off and by this morning so much memory had been used that Windows fell back into safety mode. Does anyone have a solution to my problem.

When I read "whenever the computer sits idle. within about 30 minutes of idle activity it usually reloads about 6-8 times. By the time an hour roles by, my only option is to shutdown or reboot my computer" then it's possible you have some PARASITE on the machine. Read http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/

Any fine mess/interferer is a toxic combination of mcafee or firewall. It is expected that you find such incompatibilities.

This discussion notes how to work around it until you find what combination of your new software triggered the problem.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
