Problems with Firefox

Aug 7, 2005 4:25AM PDT

I suddenly began having a problem with Firefox after I did an update. Every time I open it, the progress bar just says "Looking up (such and such website)..." and it never gets of that white screen. Internet Explorer is not affected, so I know it is not a problem with my internet connection.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, and I also ran Norton and Ad-Aware. (And of course, I rebooted several times). Is there anything else I can do, short of reinstalling my system?

Edit: someone suggested that I uninstall and reinstall both the program and the profile files, as profile files can become corrupted with updates. Anyone know how I would get to these profile files?

Thanks!

Firefox hangs on me as well.

Sometimes I can click the top-right X to close the box, sometimes not. In either case, I still must enter Task Manager and kill firefox.exe. Usually it's fine after that for me.

Not sure if that will solve your particular problem, but it's worth a try.

If you are determined to reload the entire program, after you uninstall FF, to to Windows Explorer, drive c: (or whatver drive FF resides in), Program Files, Mozilla, and delete the entire folder. Then you can start from scratch, including your profile.
