Turn computer off. Disconnect the external hard drive. Then turn computer back on. After Windows loads fully, turn it back off. While it's off, reconnect the external hard drive and turn computer back on. This should cause Windows to detect "new" hardware, and it should work then. Sometimes Windows gets confused, but this almost always fixes unrecognized external drives. Good Luck.
Ok..my external has been working fine. I unplugged the usb cable one day to use the port for something else. When I plugged it back in, windows recognizes it because it makes that noise. However, when I go to "my computer" my drive isnt listed there. I went under disk management and it's not listed there either. I tried uninstalling and installing again but it doesnt work either. It keeps saying that the device is working properly and has been installed yet I cannot access it at all. It's not listed under disk managment either. please helP!!
